A neck lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance and definition of the neck. As we age, the skin and tissue of our necks thins and sags. We lose jawline definition and can gain visible vertical bands of the neck. All of this can contribute to an aged look. A necklift can help restore jawline definition, tighten the skin of the neck and minimize vertical muscular bands.

Although most commonly combined with other surgical procedures, such as a facelift, a neck lift alone can be a powerful procedure to give the neck a more youthful appearance. As with other procedures, there are multiple neck lift techniques. What’s right for you depends on your anatomy and your specific concerns. Together, you and Dr. McEwan will review your options at length and create a custom treatment plan to address your concerns.

Necklift Consultation:

·        During your browlift consultation, Dr. McEwan will assess your facial features, discuss your aesthetic goals, and explain the potential outcomes of a neck lift.  Dr. McEwan believes that fully open communication during the initial consultation process allows for the best surgical result.

Necklift Procedure:

·        Anesthesia: Neck lifts are typically performed under conscious sedation with local anesthesia, ensuring you're comfortable throughout the procedure. General anesthesia is an option.

·        Incision Options: Incisions for a necklift are generally similar to those created during a facelift: carefully placed incisions hidden around the ears and in the hairline. Additionally, a small incision is hidden underneath the chin. Those with a large amount of excess skin may be better served by incisions placed directly on the neck. Dr. McEwan will review all of your choices with you during your consultation. Through your incision of choice, Dr. McEwan will identify the key elements of the neck that are causing your aesthetic issues. Excess fatty tissue is removed, muscles of the neck are tightened if necessary, and the excess skin is addressed.

Recovery:

·        Initial Healing: Swelling and bruising are common after a neck lift but will gradually subside over the following weeks.

·        Resuming Activities: Most patients can return to normal activities within a week, though strenuous exercise should be avoided initially.

Results:

·        Natural Look: The goal of a neck lift is to achieve a natural-looking result that enhances your features, creates a well defined jaw line, and removes vertical bands in the neck all without appearing overly "done."

·        Longevity: While individual experiences may vary, the results of a neck lift are generally long-lasting.

·        Enjoy the Results: Many patients find that a neck lift not only improves their physical appearance but also boosts their confidence and overall sense of well-being.
