Facial fat transfer, also known as fat grafting or lipofilling, is a cosmetic procedure that involves harvesting excess fat from one area of the body and strategically injecting it into the face to enhance volume, contour, and rejuvenate the overall facial appearance.  Dr. McEwan underwent extensive training in fat transfer with surgeons who pioneered this technique.

Facial fat transfer is often chosen by individuals seeking a natural and long-lasting solution to address facial volume loss and wrinkles. Facial fat transfer is a versatile and effective option for facial rejuvenation, providing natural-looking results by utilizing the patient's own fat tissue.

Procedure:

1.     Harvesting Fat: Dr. McEwan will harvest fat from a donor site, typically areas with excess fat like the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks. This is done through liposuction, where the fat is gently suctioned out.

2.     Purification: The harvested fat is processed to separate impurities and excess fluids, leaving behind purified and viable fat cells.

  • Injection: The purified fat is carefully injected into specific areas of the face that may have lost volume or exhibit signs of aging. Common areas include the cheeks, nasolabial folds, temples, and under-eye hollows. While not all transferred fat survives, the surviving fat cells become a permanent part of the treated area, offering long-lasting results. Recovery:

  • Patients may experience swelling and bruising at both the donor and recipient sites, which usually subsides over time.

  • Most individuals can resume normal activities within a week.

Results:

  • The final results of facial fat transfer may take a few weeks to become apparent as swelling subsides.

  • The treated areas appear fuller, smoother, and more youthful.
